The Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM) on Thursday granted a license to Starlink Services Maldives to further develop and expand internet services in the country.

Minister Aminath Shauna handed over the license to Starlink at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Technology. Ryan Goodnight, Senior Director Global Licensing and Activation, SpaceX, took over the license on behalf of Starlink.

The Ministry of Technology on Thursday announced that Starlink Services Maldives has been established to provide Starlink services to Maldives.

Elon Musk's Starlink is a satellite internet service provider. With the license, four companies - Digicel, Ooredoo, Focus Infocon and Starlink Maldives will be licensed to provide internet services in Maldives. In addition to those ISPs that provide internet services, it is open to the public to provide internet services under an internet retail service provider license.
