President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the Maldives is the leader among all small island nations of the world.

Speaking at a campaign meeting in R. Inguraidhoo for the upcoming presidential elections, he said the previous government had adopted a policy of isolation from the world. He, however, said that there is no progress that can be achieved by isolating from the countries of the world.

The President said that the Maldives has gained the confidence of world leaders and that they now recognize the Maldives. The Maldives has strengthened ties with 185 UN member states, while a total of 89 countries allow Maldivians visa-free access. He said the country holds the strongest passport in the region.

"Today, the country is the most prominent leader of small countries. No decision has been taken on any issues without consulting us. This shows the strength of our foreign policy," he said.

President Solih said that his administration would give special priority to improving relations with Islamic countries. He said his government had established ties with Qatar, which was severed by the previous government. He said the country was benefiting from it in various ways. He said it was easier to get loan and grant assistance.

"Embassies of all the major countries of the world are now being built in the Maldives," he said.

He said the country's foreign policy is based on five key factors. "It is about upholding the values of democracy, ensuring human rights, combating climate change, protecting and stability of regional countries, promoting freedom and Islamic brotherhood," he said.

The President further said that the Maldives is a free country and no one else can speak a word against the Maldives.
