Candidates will be allowed to sign the final voters' list of eligible voters for the September 9 elections starting tomorrow.
Vice President of the Election Commission Ismail Habib said that the final list of voters for the presidential election will be printed and the list will be signed by the candidates tomorrow, and it will continue till Sunday, 27th August.
He said that the candidates have now been informed that five representatives of each candidate can sign the list, adding that since this is the final list, changes could only be brought by a court order.
According to the final list released by the Election Commission, a total of 282,395 voters are eligible to exercise their voting rights this year. More than 27,000 new voters are eligible to cast their votes this time as well.
Candidates are required to sign the voters' list as per the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court after what happened in the 2013 elections.
This is the highest number of presidential candidates running for president since the country's constitution was amended and the multi-party system was introduced.
Under the constitution currently in force, eight candidates contested the first presidential election in 2008. Eight candidates are once again competing in the elections this year.
These include five candidates who entered the presidential race on political party tickets and three independent candidates.
There will be 574 polling stations for voting in the election, making it the highest number of polling booths so far.
