EC accredits 143 foreign observers and 22 foreign monitors for elections

Elections Commission (EC) has accredited 143 parties as observers and 22 parties as monitors for the upcoming elections.

EC's vice president Ismail Habeeb Tweeted on Sunday that the 165 foreign parties include the 31 observers that EC has extended invitation to as well. The observers will be stationed in 6 areas across the country during the elections.

Habeeb stated that 112 observers from 17 organisations will be active across the country during the elections.

The group of observers will be led by former Sri Lankan Election Commission Chairman Varunasiri Mahindadesha Priya.

Habeeb added that 40 EU observers and 21 Commonwealth observers will be active during the elections as well.

This year's elections are being held between 8 presidential candidates.
