Maldives National Party (MNP) presidential candidate and Dhangethi MP Mohamed Nazim has said that the culture of jailing ex-leaders in the Maldives needs to be eradicated.
Speaking at a ceremony held last night to present hi
Greater Male Development Plan: 2023 & Beyond", Nazim said that as the elections were round the corner, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the leader of the main opposition party, was in jail and the opposition was forced to look for an alternative way for the presidential election.
Nazim said policies of violence should be eradicated.
"At the end of every regime, the culture of arresting the former president and jailing someone who is likely to come to power should be eradicated," Nazim said.
Revealing the names of those who ruled the country, Nazim said that under his rule, even their families would not be persecuted and they would be allowed to live freely.
Nazim further said that while campaigning in rural areas, the highest interests of the country should be taken into consideration and a party will never be bigger than the country.
He said the conduct of the people of the country should be maintained in such a way that the country's independence is not compromised.
