Permanent voters' list released, 282,395 eligible voters

The Election Commission (EC) last night released the permanent list of eligible voters for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled to be held on September 9.

The EC had released the provisional voters' list and opened it for complaints on August 5. When the deadline for filing complaints for the list expired on August 15, the commission noted that there were no major complaints.

A total of 282,395 voters are eligible to vote in this year's elections with eight candidates contesting the election. There are 138,317 females and 144,355 males. Of these, 27,006 are new voters.

According to the EC, a total of 574 polling booths will be set up across the country. There are 176 boxes in Male' area, 319 boxes in atolls, 65 boxes in resorts, eight boxes abroad, five in prisons, and one in industrial islands.
