Addu City Council has decided to give land plots to all eligible applicants.
Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that for the first time, youth will be given houses even if they are not married.
Nizar said, "The council has decided that all those who meet the eligibility criteria will be allotted land among all applicants."
The council also decided to release the provisional list of eligible applicants for 1,000 plots allotted in different neighborhoods of Addu City tomorrow.
A total of 4,160 applications have been received for land, out of which only 3,972 meet the eligibility criteria, Nizar said. A total of 188 people who did not meet the eligibility criteria can now file their complaints, he said.
Applications were opened in February for allotment of land in Addu. Initially, it was announced that 1,000 houses would be allotted. This includes 500 plots in Hithadhoo, 300 in Feydhoo and 100 in each island in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.
MTCC is in the process of reclaiming land in Addu city for the allotment of land.
