As many as 8,152 applicants have applied to monitor and observe the upcoming elections scheduled to be held on September 9, the Election Commission (EC) said on Wednesday.
EC Vice President Ismail Habib tweeted that 4,545 applications have been received from local media to monitor the presidential election. He said that as election observers, he had received 3,607 applications from political parties, NGOs and independent applicants.
The EC is in the process of verifying and accrediting the information of these applications.
Habib said that while 574 polling booths will be set up in the presidential election, the fact that around 14 people are observing and monitoring the elections at each polling station is a huge morale booster and satisfaction for the EC to ensure that the election process is conducted in accordance with law and regulations.
He said the upcoming presidential election will be the best, with the observations of the country's monitors and observers as well as international observers and monitors.
