Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader and presidential candidate Qasim Ibrahim has said that if elected, he will provide free housing to the police, military, and judges during their tenure.
Speaking at a meeting held in Maamigili this evening, he said that the police and the armed forces are responsible for maintaining law and order in the Maldives and it is the judges who bear the burden of maintaining justice in the country.
He said every government talks about providing housing to the armed forces and police personnel, but it is yet to be seen as a reality.
"In my regime, with the blessings of God, we will provide a good quality accommodation that can be prepared for every soldier in this modern era as long as they are in service. wherever it is," he said.
He said the army would be provided accommodation by vacating a portion of the bandaara koshi, which is already being used as an accommodation building for the armed forces, and constructing a 15-storey building there.
He said that like the armed forces, free accommodation would be provided to the police personnel.
He further said that as long as the judges remain in office, they will be provided housing at the cost of the state.
He added that during his tenure, an air base would be set up to maintain the country's maritime and airspace. The Navy will also replace the Coast Guard, he said.
