Former STO MD Hussain Amr has been appointed as the running mate of The Democrat's presidential candidate and Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb.

The candidacy form of Ilyas will be submitted to the Election Commission (EC) at 1:00 p.m.

Earlier, there were rumors that Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla would be Ilyas's running mate.

However, rumors of Amr's appointment to become the running mate grew louder when he joined President Nasheed and Ilyas during his visit to Dhaalu and Thaa Atoll.

While The Democrats are filing their candidacy today, the party is in talks with other parties. Discussions were also held with the parties to field a single candidate.

Last night too, the Jumhooree Party (JP) and The Democrats held talks to field a common candidate. Meanwhile, senior Democrats met JP leader Qasim Ibrahim in Kunooz last night.
