Maldives National Party (MNP) presidential candidate Mohamed Nazim has submitted his candidacy form to the Election Commission (EC) to contest the upcoming presidential elections.

President of the Commission Fuwad Taufeeq received Nazim's candidacy form on behalf of the EC at a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge, the EC's presidential election headquarters.

Nazim's running mate Ahmed Adeel Naseer, MNP's two vice-presidents, Thimarafushi MP Abdulla Riyaz and Villimale' MP Ahmed Usham were also present on the occasion.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's candidacy form for a second term has also been submitted to the EC.

President Solih's candidacy form was handed over to EC President Fuwad Taufeeg by President Solih's election agent, MP Mohamed Nashiz of Kinbidhoo constituency.

Meanwhile, the candidacy form of Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb, who is contesting on behalf of The Democrats, will be submitted to the EC at 1:00 pm today.

Former President Abdulla Yameen, the opposition party's presidential candidate, was the first to file his candidacy for this year's presidential election. However, his candidature form was rejected by the EC on the ground that he did not meet the criteria.

Therefore, the case was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of President Yameen. Meanwhile, a seven-judge bench of the Supreme Court ruled that the EC's decision not to accept Yameen's candidacy was correct.

In the event of Yameen not being able to contest, PNC, which is part of the PPM coalition, has named Male' Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu as a replacement candidate.
