Several people traveling in vehicles from the bridge and highway-related areas were injured during the tidal swells that hit the Greater Male' Region today.
A video circulating on social media shows a huge wave hitting the area between the bridge and the highway, and motorcycles and cars were hit by the waves. It was not immediately known if anyone was injured in the incident.
The road from Male' to Hulhumale' has also been hit by high tides, which has caused sand and large rocks loose on the road.
The Raalhugandu Area continues to see tidal swells each year during the Hulhangu Monsoon. Even today, the region continues to experience the highest tide. Some of the vehicles passing through the area were washed away by the waves. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured.
In addition, islands near Male' city are also experiencing high tides. Himmafushi and Maafushi were also hit by high tides.
President of The Maldives Boarding Association Abdulla Areef informed One that a surfing competition being held at the Raalhugandu Area has been temporarily paused as well.
The Met Office has issued a white alert from K. Atoll to Addu City between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. today. The height of the wave is expected to rise from three to four feet during high tide hours.
