Former Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim and former Home Minister Mohamed Shihab, who resigned as Advisor to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih last month, have joined Jumhooree Party (JP).

Shihab is known to be close to former president Mohamed Nasheed. He had also visited the Sun Island resort twice as Nasheed's representative to meet JP leader Qasim Ibrahim on Nasheed's behalf before the formation of The Democrats.

Nazim was once close to former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. However, during Yameen's tenure, differences of opinion led to strained relations between the two leaders. Nazim also testified against President Yameen in the case related to the lease of V. Aarah.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of Nazim and Shihab for JP in M. Kunooz today, Qasim said that their joining JP was a boost for the party and it would increase people's respect and love for JP.

Shihab said that based on his political experience, he was ready to do everything possible to ensure that JP came to power.

Nazim said that the Maldives is now at a crossroads, and efforts should be made to take the country to the right direction. He said he had no doubt that he would be able to achieve that mission with JP.
