President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said MDP's aim is to secure more than 135,000 votes with the coalition for the upcoming presidential elections in September.

President Solih made the remarks while speaking at the campaign rally in Sh. Narudhoo. He stated that Narudhoo has been neglected by the previous governments due to the low population density in the islands. President Solih added that the former government implemented just two projects in the island.

President Solih further added that a revolutionary change can be brought to Maldives by focusing equally on all islands.

The President said the MDP-led coalition received 135,000 votes in the 2018 elections.

This year, 282,755 people are eligible to vote in the presidential election. President Solih said that 90 percent of the people usually go out to vote.

“This year our target is to get even more support,” he said, comparing the results to the 2018 vote.

The president estimated that if 90 percent of the population turns out to vote, that would be 254,479. MDP needs more than 127,240 votes to secure a win.

The President said he would win the presidential election in a single round.
