Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has announced the party will not form a coalition with MDP.

President Solih previously sent an invitation to all the political parties in the ruling coalition and the MDA to form a coalition with the MDP in the presidential election.

Jumhooree Party (JP) has decided to nominate its leader Qasim Ibrahim for the presidential race. Although MRM had not made a decision regarding a coalition, the party held discussions with MDP regarding the coalition.

The MRM said in a statement today that the party's proposals were submitted to the party's Executive Committee after a meeting held at the party's office on May 1 night.

However, the MRM Executive Committee decided at its 10th meeting this year that it does not want to work with the MDP in the first round of the upcoming presidential election as it cannot agree with some of the policies proposed by the MRM.

The MRM has decided not to form a coalition with the MDP and has been preparing to nominate party president Faris Maumoon for the elections. Faris has also held talks with the JP this week to form a coalition.
