Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)'s CEO Adam Azim has stated that B. Eydhafushi Harbour Development Project will commence soon.

Scope of work for the project include 28,304 cbm harbour dredging work, 3,354 cbm channel dredging work and installation of 170m breakwater and 383m revetment. The project is valued at MVR 64.76 million.

MTCC's team has inspected the rectification works on B. Eydhafushi Road Development Project, including 25,513 sqm asphalt laying work and installation of road markings, speed bumps and street lights. This project is valued at MVR 18.81 million.

MRDC was first awarded the contract to pave the roads in Eydhafushi during former president Abdulla Yameen's tenure. The company was liquidated in 2018 by former President Abdullah Yameen's government for misusing the company's funds. The project was then awarded to MTCC.

Speaking to the media regarding the project's progress, Azim stated that delays in the project are due to issues in the work done before.

"The company has installed two pipes where three pipes should be installed. We realised this when we tried to insert the pipes in some directions. This has caused a lot of challenges for us," Azim said.

Azim said MTCC will discuss with the government on rectifying the issues caused by MRDC.

“When we work on projects, we try to plan the work with as little inconvenience as possible to the people. Hopefully, the work will be completed within two months,” Azim said.
