The Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has opened application for the party's presidential primary.

Application for the presidential primary will open from Wednesday until Thursday. The party said nomination form and the election timeline are available at https://mrm.mv/dv/.

MRM said the candidate must meet the requirements of the Election Commission (EC) announcement to contest the 2023 presidential primary and must have been a member of the MRM for at least one year.

MRM's primary will be held on the 1st of August and voting will be conducted online.

Ahead of the MRM opening for the presidential primary, a party official told 'One' on Sunday that the party is making preparations to nominate Faris Maumoon as its presidential candidate. He said the party would decide on it within the next week and submit his candidacy to the Election Commission.

MRM's announcement of the party primary comes after EC's decision to dissolve the party citing lack of membership. MRM appealed the issue at Civil Court and the latter issued a stay order on EC's decision.
