The Election Commission (EC) has passed a no-confidence motion against the President of EC, Fuad Thaufeeq.
'One' learned that the no-confidence motion was passed at the commission's meeting on Tuesday.
Fuad told 'One' on Monday that he did not attend the no-confidence meeting chaired by Vice President Ismail Habib. He said four members attended the meeting but it was unclear how many members voted against him.
"It has no legal weight, there are no documents in the commission. As such, the no-confidence motion can be taken up by the parliament; it cannot be done within the commission," he said.
The EC has five members. They are Fuad and Habib, Ali Nashath and Dr. Mohammed Zahir and Mohammed Asif. Nashath has previously criticized Fuad stating that the latter was influenced by the political leaders.
