The Maldives Customs Service has seized drugs worth MVR 3.6 million that were being smuggled into the country through courier service.
Customs said in a statement that a package brought to Maldives from the UK on the 7th of this month was searched for the presence of suspicious substances.
"The suspected drugs recovered from two packets of the package were initially analyzed and tested positive for mephedrone. The drugs weighed 2.020 grams and had an estimated street value of MVR 3.6 million," Customs said.
The drugs have been handed over to police for further investigation.
Customs have seized a large amount of drugs smuggled into Maldives through courier services and by air during the year.
