President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that no one from his government can even think of being corrupt and anyone who has such intentions would have to excuse themselves from any roles in his government.

He added that there will be no room for corruption in his government, speaking during a campaign event held on Wednesday.

“I am saying this with confidence, that I will not let anyone in my government be corrupt. If anyone intends to do such a thing, they should immediately excuse themselves from my government,” President Solih said.

The President highlighted that the previous government had carried out projects at a price tag which was way higher than normal. He noted that water and sewerage projects which were then carried out for MVR 70 million have now come down to MVR 27 million.

“For example we have companies who had submitted proposals to carry out water and sewerage projects for MVR 70 million. But today when we reopen the same projects for rebidding, those companies are submitting proposals saying the work could be carried out as low as MVR 27 million. This is the amount of corruption the previous government had,” he said.
