President Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that old equipment was procured for the Dharumavantha Hospital, which was developed by his predecessor, President Mr. Abdulla Yameen.

Speaking during an MDP campaign event held in Male’ city on Monday night, the President highlighted that he had met with the developers of the hospital and inquired about the development of the hospital as well as the hefty price tag on it. He relayed them the information that certain changes were being needed to brought to the place already.

He noted that the developers had informed him that even though USD 80 million was budgeted for the procurement of the machinery and equipment, current equipment that has been procured would reach a price of about USD 23 million.

“This model is way too old. The developers are saying that this is the issue. They are saying that the equipment and machinery are not the same ones the place was designed for. That the machinery that has been procured would amount to about USD 23 million. They have stolen from this too. Hence, I say, that the building itself is a representation of massive corruption,” President Solih said.

The President noted that the developers had said that a specific type of equipment were to be procured for the new hospital, although the procurement of the machinery was given to a different company.
