Former President Mohamed Nasheed has revealed that one of the pledges of MDP for the Parliamentary Election is establishing hubs to provide oil and ice 100 miles out, in their bid to provide the proper pricing for fresh catch.

President Nasheed made the remarks during a campaign event held in HA. Ihavandhoo.

He explained that the hubs will be deep water rafts established about 100 miles outwards islands. These hubs will be 10,000 square feet in size and will include arrangements to provide oil and ice as well as sale of fresh catch. He further added that fishermen would be able to stay overnight and enjoy necessities such as food courts.

President Nasheed reiterated that his talks are about providing proper pricing for fresh catch, and noted that years ago people had a hard time in believing in ideas such as providing pension for the elderly and welfare benefits for single mothers and people with disabilities.

He added that, based on past experience, people would now believe that when MDP pledges to something, they fulfill their pledges.

“We are saying that we will double the current price for fresh catch. That is, when you leave from Ihavandhoo you weigh all your catch at the hub, and when you come back to Ihavandhoo you weigh all your catch here,” Nasheed added.
