President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that Maldives is once again steering towards a territory similar to that of previous corruption and tyranny.
The President said this while speaking at an MDP campaign event of Parliamentary hopeful for the Baarah constituency, Ahmed Abdulla. Speaking at a function in Haa Alif Utheemu, he said that he surveyed the direction in which the country is steering towards, at the beginning of the Parliamentary campaigns. The President noted that what he had found was not necessarily good.
He said that while it is his responsibility to fulfil the work, which is his duty to the Maldivian people, he is doing so by supporting the Agenda ‘19 manifesto. Agenda ‘19 is the Maldivian Democratic Party’s Parliamentary campaign policy manifesto. He said that his work now lies in electing MDP members to Parliament.
He recognized that the people voted for him in the past Presidential election in order to bring a change as well as progress to the country. He said that the people also voted to eliminate the acts of tyranny, corruption and theft that was widespread across the government and throughout Maldives.
He said that while accomplishing this is is goal, he had set goals for the first 100 days of his presidency and fulfilled 83 percent of these pledges by the 90th day mark. President Solih said that he has been able to accomplish these goals due to the hard work of the Ministers of the Cabinet - who are members of the government coalition- as well as the efforts of several other staff.
The President further reiterated that several legislations and amendments to bring about positive change in the path to progress has been submitted at Parliament. He added that the change that is needed in this country can only be brought forward through the success of these amendments and legislations. As such, he said that the change can be brought to the law through electing MP’s that support the government, and MDP’s, Agenda ‘19.
