Chairperson of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef has said that there is no legal cause to delay Parliamentary elections beyond the current date, April 6.

The Chairman said this while speaking to press today regarding the upcoming Parliamentary elections. He said that the Commission is undertaking everything to do with the elections as per the law. This includes the due processes and dates and periods of time, according to Shareef.

He said that as such, the opportunity to campaign for at least 30 days for elections has been provided to all candidates. The Chairperson of EC added that candidates not campaigning within that 30 day period is the candidate’s responsibility and does not fall on the Elections Commission.
