President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the most tyrannical Presidency in history of Maldives was carried out by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The President said this while speaking at an MDP campaign event at Haa Dhaal Hanimaadhoo this morning. He said that the State budget has been embezzled and stolen from like never in the history of this country. He said that while this is the case, the former President is still urging to bring back the power that he had. President Solih stressed that he will in no way allow Maldives to fall into a pit of despair like before.

According to President Solih, the manner in which the previous administration carried out the last few days before the 2014 Parliamentary election can be seen now. As such, he said that more than MVR 70 million was taken from government company, Maldives Ports Ltd. (MPL) in the name of purchasing US dollars. The President said that the money was in turn used to buy votes in the last few days in the Parliamentary elections. He said that this is how the previous administration carried out a successful Parliamentary election that year.

The President reiterated that if President Yameen comes into power again, the people will be dropped back to what had been done before. He added that the people voted for a change because it if not what they want.
