President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the only way to save Bodu Thiladhunmathi is to vote for Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members in Parliamentary elections.

The President said this while speaking at an MDP campaign event at Haa Dhaal Hanimaadhoo this morning. He said that the previous government has sold all the uninhabited and unused  islands and lagoons in Maldives. He said that however, there are few areas such as Bodu Thiladhunmathi that are still safe from.being sold off. He also said that voting for PPM and PNC will not allow Bodu Thiladhunmathi to be saved. President Solih reiterated that voting for MDP is the answer.

While this is the first visit to the Bodu Thiladhunmathi area following the Presidential campaign, he noted the support he received during the election from voters in the area and expressed his gratitude.

The President added in his speech that he had initially simply chosen to stand back and watch as the Parliamentary campaigns started. He said that he however had to come out and actively participate in the campaigns out of the fear of the possibility of seeing the country slide back to what it was.

He noted that he recognizes that the people chose him as a President to save Maldives from that tyranny. As such, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih offered assurances that he has been working from the first day of his Presidency to ensure that that does not happen.
