President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the cost of electricity has been cut down at the beginning of March 2019.
The President said this while speaking at a ceremony held at the President's Office regarding the 100 day campaign pledges a few moments ago.
He said that the main policy that was looked at, while attempting to lower electricity costs was to close the margin between electricity costs in Male’ City when compared to other local islands.
The President reiterated that the cost of electricity collected from businesses had a major margin of difference in the past. He said however that the new changes to electricity costs to the business category will bring in major ease for business owners in local islands.
As such, he noted that those that used to have to pay MVR 4600 previously, now has to give MVR 3400. This is a MVR 1200 difference in monthly electricity costs.
President Solih also noted that a five percent import duty that has been deducted from diesel. He said that the people will start seeing the positive changes of this directive, very soon.
