Jumhooree Party (JP) leader and Speaker of Parliament, Qasim Ibrahim has said that he will ensure that the dreams of former President Mohamed Nasheed do not reach fruition.
Qasim said this while speaking at the launching of JP’s Parliamentary campaign at Maamigili. He added that he will work to maintain President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration in accordance to the constitution.
He said that the Maldivian people have not forgotten who has sincerely provided services to them. The JP leader also said that Maldivians will also not forget who spoke up to save them when they were under tyranny.
Qasim said that, God-willing, he would ensure that President Nasheed's dreams do not reach fruition. He further said that President Nasheed will not be able to simply acquire whatever he wants whenever he wants it. Qasim went on to reiterate that what is resilient may never quiver, and hence said that calling him nicknames in mockery such as “millionaire” or “shopkeeper” does not work to dissuade him for even one inch backwards.
The speaker of Parliament greatly criticised President Nasheed and said that economic businessmen are the future of this country. Qasim added that the whole world believes this fact, as well.
He said that what is bothersome is that certain people who had been under tyranny have forgotten who helped them. Qasim reiterated that while it was himself who helped President Nasheed during the 2008 Presidential elections, President Nasheed has completely turned around and mocked Qasim with names.
Qasim further raised the question as to where the mockery was, when he helped President Nasheed with the 2008 Presidential elections.
He urged that the people vote after great thought, if the people wish to save their country through upcoming Parliamentary elections. Qasim Ibrahim also called on the people to remain aware of what goes on around them.
