The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali has stated that they are currently working on increasing the 1,000 people quota for Hajj that has been assigned to the Maldives.
He revealed that works are underway to increase the quota to 2,500. He made the statement while speaking on Public Service Media's Raajje Miadhu program.
Dr. Zahir noted that the Saudi government had allotted a quota of 1,000 people to the Maldives just like in previous years. He also revealed that they are currently working on finalizing pilgrimage organizers. Proposals for that expire by March 14th.
The Minister also stated that they are expecting to announce the organizers before the start of Ramadan.
Minister Zahir further stressed that they are considering negotiating the quota after visiting Saudi Arabia. He expressed hopes that the country will receive extra quotas as it has happened before as well.
