HPV Vaccine program launched in Maldives

A program to provide HPV Vaccine services has been launched in Maldives.

The Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Yumna Maumoon launched the vaccination program as the guest of honor in a ceremony held at Thaajuddeen School.

Speaking at the ceremony the Minister noted that the HPV virus infects 80 percent of the human population. She further said in her speech that while globally, a woman dies of cervical cancer every two minutes, HPV is a virus that causes cervical cancer. The vaccine will be administered for girls from ages 10 to 14 years under the program.

Minister Yumna further reiterated that the vaccination program launched in Maldives today facilitates one of the biggest preventative measures against such diseases.

Following vaccination of three girls to commemorate the launching of the program, the Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon presented certificates to the recipients.

Initiating an HPV vaccine program had been one of the 100-day campaign pledges of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen also attended today’s ceremony.
