Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that all rightful citizens will be assured flats in housing under the party’s Parliamentary campaign policy ‘Agenda 19. The Party further reiterated that as such, candidates should be able to mention the housing schemes within their campaign efforts and added that MDP does not believe that this is an issue.

Many have expressed their concerns that MDP Parliamentary candidates are claiming within their campaigns that flats are assured for constituents. The people that expressed this concern have deemed this campaign effort as corruption.

Spokesperson for MDP’s Parliamentary campaign 2019, Afshan Latheef spoke to One Online regarding the matter. She said that all MDP candidates are running their campaigns under Agenda ‘19 and added that the Parliamentary campaign policy seeks to ensure housing for citizens.

She noted that providing housing for all rightful citizens is a campaign pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and added that this is what has been included in Agenda ‘19. She noted that since campaigns of MDP candidates are conducted under this Parliamentary campaign policy, they are not making claims as civilians. Afshan further said that the candidates are therefore not infringing upon any act that can be labelled as corruption.
