Male' City Council's 'Chaalu Miskiy' fundraiser garnered massive support, raising over MVR 700,000 over the weekend.
Male' City Council said on Sunday that the MVR 1 million fund allocated by the administration is insufficient for the maintenance and repair of the mosques in Male' City. As such, the Council organised a 'Chaalu Miskiy' fundraiser event over the weekend to raise funds for the maintenance and repair of the mosques in Male' before Ramadan this year.
The fundraiser was held at artificial beach area and raised MVR 744,713.90 in total, with MVR 313,397.90 raised on the first day.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the fundraiser on Saturday night, Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizz said that the administration had allocated MVR 1 million for mosque maintenance and repairs in 2021 and 2022. Mayor Muizz added that Male' City Council has spent MVR 10 million from its revenue on maintenance and repair works around Male' City mosques.
Mayor Muizz added that even with the expenditure of MVR 10 million by the City Council, they still need to raise about MVR 9 million to complete the maintenance and repair works on the mosques before Ramadan.
Male' City Council has 34 mosques in Male' City that fall under the Council's purview through the Decentralisation Act.
