Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has said that India’s assistance to Maldives is not necessarily a matter for concern.

The Minister took to twitter today to state that  any conflicts that compromise independence will be faced by the very citizens that came out to the streets within the past few years. He noted that the people that will come out will not be the same people that hid in cowardice behind their fear of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

He responded to the tweets posted by a fake twitter account under the name of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well. As such, Minister Mahloof said in response that the fake twitter accounts have been set up by those aiming to spread discord once they did not know what action to resort to, next.

While the Minister has said this, he had been temporarily relieved from his position by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih amidst the MMPRC corruption scandal. An investigative report on the corruption by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had revealed USD 33, 000 had been transferred into accounts under Mahloof’s name.

While Mahloof had strongly denied any involvement, the ACC revealed last week that they are not investigating any charges of corruption against the Minister in the form of a letter.
