The Indian Minister for External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, has concluded her visit to the Maldives on the invitation of the Maldivian Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid.
Minister Swaraj concluded the visit and left for India this afternoon.
The Indian Minister met with the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Speaker of the Parliament, Qasim Ibrahim and conducted important discussions as part of her two-day visit.
Foreign Ministry confirmed that three agreements were signed between India and the Maldives during the visit. The agreements signed were an agreement on Exemption from Visa Requirement for Holders of Diplomatic and Official Passports, a Memorandum of Understanding regarding Indian Grant Assistance for Implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects through Local Bodies and a Memorandum of Understanding on Collaboration in the Field of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
Discussions were also held yesterday on India providing aid to the Maldives in the Defence, Health, Business, Economy and Capacity Development.
The Indian Minister was accompanied by a delegation comprised of high ranking Indian government officials.
Minister Swaraj and her delegation also met with individual Maldivian cabinet ministers, to further discuss how the Indian government could be of assistance to the Maldives in different areas.
