President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that most Maldivians get job opportunities from small and medium businesses in the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of SME Development Finance Corporation (SDFC), the President said that 93 percent of businesses in the country are small to medium businesses; thus making them the backbone of the Maldivian economy.

President Solih said that SDFC would have a special loan scheme for women, youth and people with disabilities. And it is going to create more small businesses, increase the talented products from women paving the way to an economic revolution.

While SME banking has been introduced offering smaller interest rates, the President said that it is a loan scheme that can help more than two thirds of the population.
