Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Aishath Nahula has said that she does not believe in considering party colors when casting votes.

Minister Nahula said this while speaking at campaign event of Parliamentary hopeful for Villimale’’ constituency with JP ticket and former Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed.

She had urged the people to consider the capabilities of candidates when casting their votes in Parliamentary elections. The Minister said that she does not believe in considering the political party colors of candidates or where they have come from, when casting votes.

Additionally, she noted the importance of voters taking into account the candidate that would bring the biggest progress for the constituency. She said that the current administration came to power with several pledges to its people. As such, the Minister said that it is important for Jumhooree Party to take on many Parliamentary seats as well.

During the past week, Jumhooree Party had announced that the party will endorse candidates of the Progressive National Coalition  for Parliamentary elections. The Progressive National Coalition consists of current opposition parties, the People’s National Congress (PNC) as well as the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). Minister Nahula had commented on the matter and said that she will not support any candidates that are endorsed for Parliamentary elections by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The Progressive National Coalition has however announced their support for Jumhooree Party candidates for the upcoming Parliamentary elections.
