Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that carrying out businesses of fisheries under licenses ensure price control over price inflation.

President Nasheed said this while speaking at campaign event of MDP Parliamentary candidates for Gaaf Alif Atoll last night. He added that the right price for fish can be attained through competitive fishing practices and allowing fishing to continue without restrictions.

He said that the license procedures for fishing now only allow one or two people to carry out purchases. President Nasheed further said that there are currently arrangements to control the price of fish caught.

He noted that allowing fisheries to continue in a competitive way without limitations will yield in the proper benefits of the industry.

The former President said that the biggest company carrying out businesses concerning fisheries has a government stake in it. He said that although this is the case, the price if fish are still being controlled.

He said that the price controls are being carried out by the company with the government stake as well as the only remaining private company. President Nasheed reiterated that this can all be changed through MDP Parliamentary campaign policy Agenda ‘19.

The policy regarding fishing on Agenda ‘19 constitutes of carrying out fisheries businesses without the restrictions of registering under the government.
