Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has fined Planning Ministry for not following regulations during Addu City MAradhoo-Feydhoo Harbour Project.

EPA released a statement on Monday stating that Planning Ministry had failed to adhere to the EIA issued on 10 September 2019. EPA stated that the project did not follow the regulations and that Planning Ministry had failed to follow guidelines thrice.

As such, EPA fined the ministry MVR 120,000 to be paid within 30 days.

EPA stated that Planning Ministry must hire a consultant to determine the damages to the environment and submit EIA within 60 days. Additionally, Planning Ministry has also been asked to submit a revised EIA monitoring plan including the completed harbour works within 7 days.

President Solih had inaugurated Maradhoo-Feydhoo harbour in March 2022 during his visit to Addu City.
