Interim leader of People’s National Congress (PNC) and MP for Fonadhoo constituency, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, has said that the family of the former President, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has been informed by his doctors that some of the medical tests required cannot be done in the country.
Speaking at a PPM-PNC joint press conference of the Progressive Coalition today, Abdul Raheem said that they are concerned about the former President’s health and some of his basic rights are being neglected during his time in detention.
The MP said that the charge raised against ex-President Yameen is a political one.
He said that when they met with President Solih to find an ease to former President Yameen in detention, it was clear the charge was a political one when President Solih said that he might be able to ease things politically.
Abdul Raheem has said that the meetings with state and independent institutes to share the concerns over the former President’s health and that he’s being detained for the duration of the trial, has been in vain.
The Acting President of PNC said that after making promises, President Solih has been cruel to the people since he took office.
