Maldives Customs Services (MSC) has revealed that the value of imports in August 2022 increased 48% in comparison to the same period in 2021.
MSC publicised statistics revealing that import value was at MVR 4.8 billion in August this year compared to MVR 3.3 billion last year.
MSC statistics showed the increase in imports led to an increase in overall revenue. As such, the state earned MVR 391 million from imports and exports in August this year while revenue remained at MVR 288 million in August last year. This is an increase of 36%.
According to MCS statistics, the top importers in August were Oman, India, China, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Singapore. As such, goods worth MVR 1.1 billion were imported from Oman, goods worth MVR 722 million were imported from India.
Majority of the exports in August were to Germany, Mauritius, UK, Bangladesh, and India, according to MSC statistics.
