President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the decrease in petrol import duty should lead to lower electricity costs.

The President said this during a campaign event of Addu candidates for the Parliamentary constitution held at Seenu Hithadhoo.

He noted said that lowering cost of electricity is a Presidential campaign pledge and said that the import duty of fuel has been slashed for this purpose. The President said as such, that the cost of electricity should be lowered.

He said that cutting of import duty on fuel should result in lower electricity owed to company owners and businesses getting an ease in conduct.

President Solih said that numerous state finances have been let go due to the slashing of fuel import duty costs. He noted as such, that  companies should take the responsibility that comes with this ease and extend this to the people. He noted that otherwise, there is no purpose for the change.
