Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced former Drug Enforcement Department (DED) officer Abdulrahman Rafeeu for 1-year and 28 days for engaging in homosexuality.
Rafeeu was sentenced at a closed hearing at Criminal Court on Thursday. He had confessed to engaging in homosexuality and apologised to the public during his previous hearing.
Rafeeu's sentence of 1-year 28 days is after subtracting his remand period.
Criminal Court has also sentenced the Bangladeshi resident Alamghir for 7 months, and local lawyer and brother of Parliament Speaker, Nazim Sattar for 26 days of house arrest.
Criminal Court is yet to give a verdict on former MP Nasheed who has also been charged with engaging in homosexuality.
