President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the government has allocated MVR 5.3 billion for Addu City developmental project.
President Solih said this while speaking at the inaugural campaign event of Addu City candidates last night.
He said that the progress of this nation lies in developing areas other than capital of Male’ City. The President said that this current government has a great vision for the development of Addu City. He said that the major project will serve to expand the entire City, stabilize the collapsed economy and ensure that Addu is the central machine of economic development in Maldives.
President Solih said that the MVR 5.3 billion allocated will increase tourist accommodation availability by 8000 beds in Addu City. He said that the project will expand the area and develop the port of Addu to international standards. He further said that the massive undertaking will also involve constructing a 17 kilometer road, the development of fishing harbor as well as establishing a factory for the fisheries canning process. President Solih said that the project will tackle challenges faced in availa iloty of electricity within the City and provide a permanent solution. He noted that the project will direct efforts into the building of a swimming pool, football stadium and a sports complex that is much needed for social progress.
President Solih said that the vision was born out of Addu itself and added that his role is merely ensuring that this vision becomes a reality.
