Commissioner of Police (CP), Mohamed Hameed, has stated that the Maldives Police Service (MPS) officers were attacked by a gang, and that MPS will take swift action against them.

MPS said two individuals have been arrested on Friday for attacking three Police officers who are now receiving medical attention at ADK Hospital.

Tweeting regarding the issue, CP Hameed stated that the injured officers belonged to Drug Enforcement Department (DED). He added that the off-duty officers were attacked by a gang and that MPS will take swift action against them.

"I have met with the injured officers at ADK, who were attacked by a gang that operates in Henveiru", CP Hameed said.

Two individuals have been arrested over the attack.

"We will take swift action against the perpetrators. Attacking Police officers is a serious offence. MPS will not cease operations against organised crimes and drug trafficking", CP Hameed added.

He further added that extensive work needs to be done to enforce a stop to organised crimes and drug trafficking. CP Hameed said MPS will always prioritise protecting the citizens.
