President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said though the MDP Congress kicked off with a lot of tension but is coming to an end as an exemplary political party.
MDP Congress which has been ongoing since Friday has seen multiple debates following the resolution put forth by Nasheed for a referendum to decide on the system of governance in the Maldives. Nasheed has since withdrawn his resolution after private discussions with President Solih and MDP's Chairperson and Economic Minister, Fayyaz.
Speaking at the Congress, Nasheed said he had discussed with President Solih before putting forth the resolution, and that after multiple debates and discussions, he is withdrawing the resolution for the time being.
Speaking at the Congress in its final session, President Solih stated that political parties will see differences in opinions but that MDP can work out its differences.
He added that the MDP Congress has been fruitful with over 1200 congressmen in attendance. President Solih further added that he is confident MDP will win the 2023 elections.
