It has been revealed that Masjid-Al Walidain, which was built as memorial for former First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim’s parents were constructed with MVR 2.5 million from Maldive Gas.
The large amount of funds obtained illegally had been revealed to have acquired through the books of Maldive Gas. The books show that equipment of the company was taken during the construction of the mosque in Hulhumale’.
The new Managing Director of Maldive Gas assigned by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, Shazail Shiyam has confirmed the news to One Online today.
Shazail said that the company’s equipment that had been utilized for the construction of the mosque had been taken under the pretence of being taken to the gas plant at Gaaf DhaaluThinadhoo. He added that no equipment for the gas plant had been taken to Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo.
The Managing Director of Maldive Gas during the construction of the mosque during former President Yameen’s administration was Abdulla Maumoon.
The mosque, constructed near Rehendhi School and Hulhumale’ turf ground had been officially opened on 20 August 2018 and consists of two floors that can accommodate 700 people.
