Indian billionaire, Abhishek Verma, has posted several tweets of threats against Maldivian columnist Mohamed Bushry after following a tweet on the former President, Mohamed Nasheed's meeting with the Indian billionaire.
While President Nasheed had met with Indian billionaire, Abhishek Verma, on a visit to India, Bushry had previously taken to twitter to raise questions as to the purpose of the meeting.
Bushry’s tweet (@modebush) on Sunday, asked the question as to why the former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed is conducting meetings with “Indian arms dealer” Abhishek Verma.
While Verma has been widely accused of running arms deal operations, no allegations have been proven as of now.
The verified twitter account of Abhishek Verma (@AbhishekVermaX) had then responded to Bushry’s tweet.
Abhishek’s twitter stated that he is aware that Bushry owns a media outlet in the Maldives and further urged to delete tweets as well as articles in the Maldives Times that incited allegations against Verma.
The tweet further said that should Bushry fail to take this action, the consequences would lead to a defamation lawsuit.
A second tweet sent out by Abhishek stated that he will pursue legal action under the cause of defamation in Maldives, India as well as International courts if Bushry does not delete tweets against Verma.
While several Maldivians have taken to posting tweets regarding the tweets sent out by Abhishek, former President Nasheed has maintained silence regarding this meeting.
The columnist for Dhuvas news, Sun Online as well as One Online, Mohamed Bushry spoke to One Online regarding this matter, stating that until this Sunday, only three Maldivians were followed by Verma’s twitter account.
Bushry said that they were current President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, former President Mohamed Nasheed and himself. He noted that both President Solih and ex-President Nasheed had been unfollowed by Verma on twitter as of this yesterday's morning.
Verma had also sent out similar warnings against Maldivian news source Vaguthu regarding the matter as well.
