Defence Minister, Mariya Ahmed Didi, has said that the government policy is to keep Maldives a strong country.

Mariya made the statement responding to a question from the MP for Mahibadhoo constituency, Ahmed Thoriq, today at the parliament.

MP Thoriq asked the Defence Minister whether she believes she is fulfilling her constitutional obligation to create policies to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country along with defending the Maldivian sea and economic zone.

In response, Mariya said that creating policies that strengthens the military is also part of the job of the Defence Minister and that is what she is currently doing. And she reiterated that she would continue to do so in the future.
