Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has brought 36 mini buses to begin the service in Male' City.
MTCC revealed via a tweet on Saturday that their fleet of buses has arrived in the Maldives. They noted that the 36 buses have arrived and that port clearance is currently underway.
Starting mini bus services in the capital city was a presidential pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, scheduled to kick start within the first 100 days of his administration. As such, during February 2019 an agreement was signed between the Ministry of Transport and MTCC regarding the service.
CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim noted that in order to fulfill this pledge, the company will begin minibus services in the capital city this month.
The project was initially handed over to the transport ministry, however Minister Aishath Nahula had noted that the delays in the project were caused due to a lack of proper funding.
