Grandfather and Great-Grandfather of a 2-year-old in Gaafu Alif atoll Kandholhudhoo have been found guilty of her rape, and convicted to 25 years in jail.

The two who were charged are Grandfather Ibrahim Didi and Great-Grandfather, Hassan Moosa Didi. They were both charged with conducting a sexual act with a child of the family.

The Criminal Court noted that it has been proven to the court through their findings that before 17 January 2020, the two had touched the girls genitals on multiple occasions. Hence, they were found guilty of the charges and were sentenced to 25 years in prison.

After deducting time spent in detention, they will have to serve a sentence which is a little over 22 years.

Since the case involved a minor, the verdict was not publicised and the trial was closed.
